It’s time to decree! Many confirmations have stated, “Decree!” Yes, we will continue to pray in the Spirit. Praying in the Spirit will build ourselves up on our most holy faith. We will be encouraged, edified, and strengthened. We will pray by the Holy Spirit the perfect plan of God. But, the decree is also of utmost importance. “Thou shalt also decree a thing and so shall it be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways” ( Job 22:28). Arise in faith and authority and speak, “I shall decree and it shall be!” A decree is spoken with your native language. As tongues strengthen your heart or inner man or spirit, so a decree strengthens your mind or emotions or feelings or soul. You cease to be conformed to circumstances and are transformed with hope to the ruling reality of God’s Word and will and plan. You are in agreement with God. The Hebrew says to decree is to cut, cut off; to divide, to separate; to decide, to cut off contention and uncertainty by a determination or decree; to sentence; to appoint; to prescribe; to establish; an edict enforced by the highest and most absolute authority. These meanings are very powerful and significant. Let’s meditate on them. To cut: When with authority you speak God’s Word, will, and plan it cuts off generational curses, the attacks of the devil, and the works of the flesh. Decreeing cuts them off the one (people, place, thing, or self) for whom you are praying. When an arm is cut off it withers and dies because it has no contact with that which gives it life. Picture yourself taking the sword of the Spirit and cutting off the negative and evil that you determine must not remain. Stand in the gap and decree. In 2007 we will decree with authority; we will have greater understanding of our authority in Christ; we will rule with God’s authority. Jesus triumphed openly on the cross! In Him, we will triumph. To divide: The picture that comes to my mind is the wisdom of Solomon issuing a decree to “divide the baby.” This decree exposed the truth and the lie; the light and the darkness. Love rose up to conquer death. The true mother unselfishly chose life for her son and separation from him, rather than death for him. The truth, love, wisdom and honor prevailed. She willingly gave him up, but the king decreed, “She is the true mother. Give the baby boy to her.” In God, we never lose and fail; right wins the fight. When you decree, the sword of the Spirit separates your thoughts from the lies of the enemy. The decree separates the one for whom (or what) you intercede from the lies of the enemy who is attacking that one’s soul. A separation takes place. When Jesus said, “Come out or arise or be still,” His decree separated or cut off the devil from the person, or death from the life of the child, or the storm from the waters. His decree caused good to be! To decide: Before you can decree, you must decide. Second Corinthians 4:13 says, “We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have spoken: we also believe, and therefore have spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak.” To believe is to decide. And we speak what we truly believe. Speaking in faith is far more than a momentary decision to speak God’s Word. The belief must be in the heart if the decree is to be with and in authority. If it is not in the heart, one may speak in the moment, but when greater pressures come, that one speaks what they really believe – the present circumstances rather than future victory or desired end results. We speak continually and consistently what we believe. The picture in your mind tells you what you believe. The heart is a mirror and will reflect (picture or image) what is truly inside. Thank God! We can change that if our thinking is not what we really desire. We are not to decree (speak or say) according to our feelings, but according to God’s Word! Contention or strife or a battle can rage inside one, or among people. When you decree what you decide should be, even calling those things that be not as though they were, your decree cuts off contention, strife, and the battle. Peace then replaces contention. We cease to look at the temporal (present unwanted circumstances) and focus all our energies on the eternal. God has given us the authority and the power to change the temporal, if we want to. We decide. Second Corinthians 4:18 says, “While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” A decree stops uncertainty. That brings to mind the words of James. “But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways” (James 1:6-8). When you decree, your words are certain and you know “there will be a change.” As the ole’ saying goes, “you put your foot down and demand a change.” Enough is enough! Strength and determination rise strong in you; you are convinced change is coming now! Determination is like steel in you. And the determination of what you have determined becomes manifested reality. You see, you plant the seed and God gives the harvest! A decree is a determination! I wanted to know the definition of determination, so I looked it up. The Webster’s New Dictionary states: 1.a. The act or process of determining or being determined. b. A decision or result thus arrived at. 2. Firmness of purpose; resoluteness. To decree is to sentence. What comes to your mind? I think of a court of law and justice. When a verdict is decided upon and then decreed by the jury and judge, sentence is given and then carried out by the authority. Law enforcement prevails. Does this remind you of the widow whom Jesus spoke of in Luke 18:1-7? Verse eight states His heart. “I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?” Let faith arise and enemies be scattered! God is the judge of all the earth. To decree is to appoint. The promise to Christians in First Thessalonians 5:9 is, “For God did not choose us to condemn us, but that we might secure his salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Phillips). The KJV states, “For God hath not appointed us….” What is salvation? Every good and perfect gift that God gives. Every thing we need. We have been appointed to receive blessings! We believe and decree the blessings that are needed. We give God thanks and praise for those blessings. We act like we have them because we believe we do. Such is the walk in the Spirit, and the walk in faith, as the just live by faith and not by sight. Decree to appoint God’s blessings – His supernatural favor. To decree is to prescribe. The familiar picture that comes to mind is that of a physician prescribing a medication. The druggist fills it, it becomes yours, (of course you pay for it, but praise God, Jesus has already paid for all the blessings God has prescribed for us) and you use it to help remedy the condition. But, prescribe also means “to set down and rule or guide.” When a decree is decreed the rule is laid down and even begins to guide the situation. Wow! Such force and power. Like the bursting forth of many waters, the breakthrough! Is it any wonder God instructed the children of Israel to decree from the two mountains: one decreeing blessings and the other decreeing cursings. God wants us to decree blessings so He can give the breakthrough. We must not grow weary in decreeing. To decree is to establish. Second Chronicles 20:20 says “…Believe in the Lord your God, so shall ye be established….” The NEB reads, “…hold firmly to your faith in the Lord your God and you will be upheld….” Saints, as you decree knowing God is Lord and good and merciful, what you decree is up held by God and is the deciding and determining factor in the situation. When we hold firmly to our faith and our confidence in the Lord our God, He will perfect all that concerns us. The song says, “He didn’t bring us this far to let us down.” “And I am sure that God, who began the good work…, will continue his work until it is finally finished….” (Philippians 1:6 NLT). The Old Testament promises “not one good word of the Lord shall ever fail us”. As we “trust in the Lord, He shall surely bring it to pass.” The final consideration in this study for the word decree is this meaning: an edict enforced by the highest and most absolute authority. When a thing is enforced it demands obedience; it is made to prevail (be victorious) by authority! That is the reason “what you decree shall be!” God is the Most High! He is the most absolute authority! Our God reigns! When and what you decree is enforced by the highest and most absolute authority. God’s Word, will and plan are the most absolute authority. I am laughing on the inside! In Him I win! I had to see what Webster’s New Dictionary had to say regarding the word absolute. What joy flooded my soul! Absolute means: 1. Perfect in quality or nature; complete. 2. Not mixed; pure. 3. a. Not limited by restrictions or exceptions; unconditional. b. Unqualified in extent or degree; total. 4. Not to be doubted or questioned; positive. Selah. That’s our God and His Word. When and what we decree does determine these prevailing truths. They are like a rock dropped into water; they sink in; change is activated and completed. God hastens to perform His Word! “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the things whereto I sent it” (Isaiah 55:11). Decree God’s Word and it shall be. Amen. 2007: The year of the decree: The year of perfection and completion: The Year of the Most High, the most absolute authority! I believe, receive, and rejoice!
