Blessings By Covenant By Bobbie Jean Merck The topic heading over Genesis Six in my Bible says, “Evil Rules Over Mankind.” Can you imagine? Yes, you can, because we often “see” just that in our day and age. But God…! Praise our merciful Lord Who looks down upon mankind and declares, “I will not judge the righteous with the unrighteous.” Thank God for the Lord Jesus Christ and the New Covenant. He said, “…All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations…” (Matthew 28:18,19). Power is the result of authority. Authority is first, and authority produces and releases power. The title does make the difference. For example, you obey the law officer because as he stands in the position of an officer of the law, he has authority. We have been given authority and power because we are positioned in Christ and execute the law of the Kingdom of God. God has indeed “touched” us, and His touch is always authoritative. By His “touch” we have authority, and thus, power. When we put on our uniform – the Lord Jesus Christ – we are positioned to execute authority and power. Throughout the Old Testament we read that God would raise up a man or woman to rescue His righteous people. Today, He has raised up “the Man – Jesus Christ” and His Body. We are His Body. He is our head! Whatever our head says or signals, the body does. In the day when evil ruled mankind, God raised up Noah as we read in Genesis 6:7,8. “And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.” Who was Noah? A righteous man who heard and obeyed God. Noah was a man of “unsinkable faith.” Hebrews 11:7 says, “By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.” Noah was warned by God of an impending disaster such as no one had ever seen. A flood was coming! Think of it, mankind had not seen rain, and Noah was warned that rain and destruction were coming to cleanse the earth! Noah believed God and went into action. First he heard the warning, and secondly he went to work preparing for exactly what God had said. He believed God. Believe was an old English word which was by live. In other words, live by what God has said and is saying! We live by what we believe. Let us learn from Noah and be blessed as he was blessed. He feared God. This does not mean fear as it is written in Second Timothy 1:7. Noah’s fear of God was awesome wonder, reverence, awe, respect, honor, and worship. We repeatedly see that worship of God is a priority to receiving God’s blessings. Because of Noah’s lifestyle at home and in public, he prepared an ark and saved his house, i.e., his family. They observed the effectiveness of Noah’s faith in God. And because they observed Noah’s relationship with God and people, they believed. The opposite of the ability or character to ‘save your family’ is seen in the life of Lot. He chose an ungodly place to live and interacted with ungodly people. His sons laughed at him. His wife loved Sodom so much she longingly looked back to Sodom in disobedience, and was then turned into a pillar of salt. Lot got drunk and then committed incest with his daughters. This reveals a lack of character, morals, and faith in their lives. They lived an unrighteous and faithless life. Noah found grace in God’s eye. Grace means favor, kindness, preciousness, and is only found in a supernatural relationship. God loved Noah. John in writing of Jesus said, “…and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14). We are in Jesus Christ and He is in us. We too, are full of grace and truth. Glory to His Name! The name Noah means rest. As grace and peace multiply in and to you, blessings multiply in your life. Peter greeted the saints with, “Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied” (First Peter 1:2). I greet you in the same manner. Peace is required for rest. And rest means peace and health. Therefore, as the Bible says in Second Peter 3:18, “But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.” Another vital part of Noah’s life was the principle of “walking with God.” Genesis 6:9 says, “These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.” He had, and continued in, a right relationship with God. No roller coaster ride for Noah. He was consistent and steady and strong in his walk with God, which produced “unsinkable faith.” The ark didn’t sink. It was kept afloat by God in response to Noah’s faith and obedience. Do you have “unsinkable faith?” Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations. This caught my attention. Generations? Not only generation! What is God saying, I pondered? Then I looked the word up in the Hebrew and Greek! Excitement exploded within me! Spiros Zodhiates, Hebrew-Greek Key Word Study Bible says, “The essence of dhōr (its root) is to move in a circle, surround.” It is the cycle (circle) of a person’s lifetime. In the Greek, it also means a circle of time. God continues to speak to us about circles. Even our lifespan is known as a circle or cycle. Could God be telling us the age we live in is closing? Jesus is coming! Keep your eyes on Jesus, as a prophet spoke to me February 7, 2007! As the king said, “…our eyes are on You…!” So much is written and happened from Genesis 6:9 - 8:22. But let us look at Genesis Nine. Genesis 9:1 says, “And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.” What a statement! When and whom God blesses He also desires that they be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth. He does not take away; He gives and multiplies. God commands Noah, “…bring forth abundantly….” Abundance and God’s blessings are one. They agree! Paul prayed a mighty prayer for the saints at Ephesus. It has become a powerful covenant-blessing prayer for me and through me for others. It is a prayer for personal growth. It is written in Ephesians 3:19-21. Ephesians 3:19-21 reads, “Actually, I want you to know the love of Christ which is beyond knowing. Experiencing love like this, may you be overwhelmed with the awareness of the presence of God. Now to God, who can do by the power that exists in us greater things than we are able even to imagine or request, to him be the fulfillment he intended through Christ Jesus, now and always. Amen.” Abundance is ours to inherit and possess! God speaks to Noah and his sons and a covenant is established. This is what God said in Genesis 9:11-17. “And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth. And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth. And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud: And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth. And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth.” Protection is ours through the covenant! When God began to speak revelation to me for this time of blessing, the words “… a token of a covenant…” leaped off the page to me. The word token or sign became larger and larger within me. I asked myself, “What token or sign has God given me for an outstanding, blessed life?” His answer came to me, “The New Covenant in the blood of My Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, is my token or sign for you.” Let us believe in this token (sign) as strongly as we believe the earth will never again be destroyed by a flood when we see the glorious rainbow in the clouds! We have a sure covenant! Be assured and be blessed!
