Kairos-Time

By Bobbie Jean Merck

               “Then Mordecai commanded to answer Esther, Think not with thyself that thou shalt escape in the king's house, more than all the Jews.  For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father's house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this” (Esther 4:13-14).

We have come into the kingdom of God for such a time as this!

Before the foundations of the world were laid, God set boundaries of times to exist throughout the existence of mankind on the earth.  In the fullness of time Jesus Christ was born into the earth.

Acts 17:24-26 says, “God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation.”

            We are within one of those determined times.  Such a time is called a kairos-time.  Kairos is defined in the Hebrew-Greek Key Word Study Bible as: season, time, but not merely as a succession of moments which is chronos.  Kairos implies that which time gives an opportunity to do.  Kairos implies not the convenience of the season, but the necessity of the task at hand whether the time provides a good, convenient opportunity or not. When used in the plural with chronos (times), it is translated as seasons, times of which certain foreordained events take place or necessary appointments need to take place.

            We believe such a kairos-time began 7/7/07.  Approximately 41 nations joined American believers for The Call in Nashville, Tennessee on that day to pray.  Some believers who could not attend The Call in Nashville entered into prayer at their churches, ministries, and homes.  They believed God’s Word of promise as it is written in Second Chronicles 7:14, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

            God hears and answers the prayers of His people, and He pours out His spirit of grace and supplication upon them to anoint them to pray at a kairos-time.  Jonathan G. Edwards who was mightily used of God as a great revivalist said, “When God has something very great to accomplish for His Church it is His will that there should precede it the extraordinary prayers of His people. And it is revealed that when God is about to accomplish great things for His Church, He will begin by remarkably pouring out the spirit of grace and supplication.”  (See Zechariah 12:10.)

We must know the signs of the times.  It is written in Mark 1:14-15, “Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,  And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.”  The time is fulfilled!  Years of prayer and following Jesus one day, one step at a time has prepared us for this kairos-time.  Enter in with joy, thanksgiving, and determination.

WHAT HAS NOT BEEN SHALL BE, AND WHAT HAS BEEN SHALL NOT BE;

FOR GOD’S KINGDOM SHALL COME AND HIS WILL BE DONE!

Redeem the time!

Colossians 4:5 reads, “Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.”  Ephesians 5:15-20 says, “See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.  Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

            The number seven is very significant throughout the Word of God and throughout history.  Hebrew mathematicians believe the Word of the Lord and numbers cannot be separated.  The very Word of God given to us in the Holy Scriptures began and begins with seven Hebrew words.  As it is translated into English, ten words are written.  Genesis 1:1 reads, “In the beginning God created the Heaven and the earth.”  In the beginning of mankind’s history seven is stamped upon God’s Word and reveals significant importance.

            Satan has deceived so many using a counterfeit of numerology.  No, we are neither superstitious nor deceived by numbers.  God’s Word is filled with kairos-time events where the number seven is used.  Therefore, we believe His Spirit is speaking to us and we are expecting great events to happen and begin in 2007!

            In the Hebrew, seven is shevah.  It is from the root savah, which means to be full or satisfied, have enough of.  On the seventh day God rested from the work of creation.  It was full, complete, and perfect.  Nothing could be added to it or taken from it without marring it.

It is seven, that stamps with perfection and completeness that in connection with which it is used.  For example, seven completes the colors of the rainbow, and the notes of a scale in music.  In each of these the eight is only a repetition of the first.

Have you considered that God is one: Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost?  And the number eight is for Jesus Christ, new beginnings, and glory?  Remember, the eighth is only a repetition of the first!  Wow!

When God made a promise to Abram (Abraham) in Genesis 12:2-3, He gave to him a seven-fold blessing.

            “I will make of thee a great nation,

And I will bless thee,

            And make thy name great;

            And thou shalt be a blessing;

            And I will bless them that bless thee,

            And curse them that curseth thee:

            And in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.”

            On July 7, 1947 (note: 7-7-7), the Jews got on an exodus boat from Europe and left for Israel.  In November 1947 the United Nations decreed Israel a nation, and on 5/14/48 they officially declared themselves a nation and in fact, became a nation.  Five is the number for the Holy Spirit and grace; fourteen is double seven; four is for God’s creation, and all His power working in behalf of His highest creation – mankind; eight is new beginnings, glory, and Messiah!

            Jesus Christ is the 77th descendant of Adam, so listed in Luke 3:23-38.

The kairos-time that we are in is a time when we shall see the life of God, coming from God, poured out as never before in our generation.  Miracles; the gifts of the Holy Spirit; the full surrender of the believer; the wisdom, knowledge, revelation and understanding of the Word and God’s will shall manifest for all to see.  Grace will abound!  The sovereignty of God will be made known!

In the days of Noah, wickedness and sin abounded.  A kairos-time began as God declared in Genesis 6:3, “And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.”

It is interesting and significant to note that “all the days of Lamech (Noah’s father) were seven hundred seventy and seven years: and he died.”  (See Genesis 5:31.)  Lamech’s death was the last recorded death before the flood.  Lamech lived 777 years!  His name means destroyer, poverty, laid low, and pauper.  Selah.  This is outstanding because as we consider the world for the last 50 years those characteristics exist.

But! God intervened in Noah’s day and He will today.  Genesis 6:8 tells us, “But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.”  Noah’s name means rest.  His father, Lamech, lived and died during a time when there was no rest.  Isaiah 57:19-21 warns us of such a dilemma. “I create the fruit of the lips; Peace, peace to him that is far off, and to him that is near, saith the LORD; and I will heal him.  But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt.  There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.”

However, God found Noah who was a just man and perfect, meaning completeness and maturity, who would do His will.  Hebrews Eleven consists of the listing of the heroes of faith.  Noah is listed as one who stood alone for righteousness in his generations.

Noah did all that God commanded him.  The ark was ready.  Judgment was beginning.  But Noah and his family were safe and protected and would not experience the judgment.

            Once again the number seven is significant as Genesis 7:4,17 tell us. “For yet seven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and every living substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of the earth.  And the flood was forty days upon the earth; and the waters increased, and bare up the ark, and it was lift up above the earth.”

Verse ten of Genesis seven says, “And it came to pass,” just as God had said.  Genesis  7:11 says, “In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.”  On exactly the seventeenth day of the month the flood began.  After sin, poverty, destruction, and death came the kairos-time of righteousness, prosperity, promise and new life and new beginnings.  Blessings replaced cursings.  Grace abounded.  Worship unto the Lord prevailed!  Amen!

            We are indeed in God’s kairos-time for us.  There has not been the date of 7-7-7 for one thousand years!  Selah. We are blessed and God would have us bless to others.  Will you?
