Intercessory Prayer
By Pastor Philip Derber
As our church was in intercession on November
2, 2007, I had a vision that was intense in its impact upon me. As I
share this vision with you, I trust that God will minister to you in His
call to be fervent in prayer in ever-increasing measure. The harvest is
ripe!
The Vision
A man that
“looked like” Jesus had a chain around his head and a lock in the middle
hanging down between his eyes. This chain and lock were deception. The
same man was in a dark, dimly lit prison cell. He was holding the bars to
the cell beside the cell door and he was looking out. This signified
physical pain. Shackles were around both hands and feet denoting destiny.
I then saw
hundreds of people behind this man. These spoke of lost multitudes.
A person
(revealed as me) wore a set of eight keys on his side. The colors of the
keys had specific meanings: (1) gold…God; (2) silver…ministry; (3)
red…salvation; (4) white…new creation realities; (5) black…addictions; (6)
blue…witty inventions; (7) green…prosperity; (8) yellow…healing.
I told God
that I wanted those people free. His response was, “No, you don’t!” I
told Him again that I wanted those people free. Again God said, “No! You
Don’t!” I said to God the third time, “Give me those people so I can
unlock their chains.” He responded, “You really don’t want those people
free, because if you did you would be down on your face behind your pulpit
asking Me for them.” I did!
I then saw
all the people who were in prison with chains on their heads and shackles
on their feet and hands, with a huge chain going around them, and a huge
lock that was bigger than myself. A huge rusty key was in the lock, but
it needed to be turned. I could not turn it by myself. I had to have
this chain (which was people living under the curse of their own words)
loosed from around the people before I could use my keys to unlock their
chains.
I told God
that I needed help to turn the key, and some oil (anointing) would be
helpful. He then told me that the key was intercessory prayer. People had
become rusty without the anointing for intercessory prayer. Then I saw
other hands (intercessors) joining my hands on the huge key, and we turned
it. But, the lock only popped open. The chain still held its place.
I cried out
to God for those people, and bound Satan, and said, “In the Name of
Jesus…” three times. On the third time I saw a gleaming, shimmering sword
slash through the huge lock as though it were made of some soft material.
Then that massive chain fell off from around all those people. This
released me to take the colored keys and to release the people from their
chains.
(End of Vision.)
Indeed, “God setteth the solitary in
families: he bringeth out those which are bound with chains: but the
rebellious dwell in a dry land” (Psalm 68:6).
Let us be
diligent in our response to God’s call to intercession. Let us pray!
